At-a-Glance Guide to Analytics at SAPPHIRE NOW Madrid

I’ll be an official “social ambassador” for analytics at SAPPHIRE NOW from Madrid next week. This blog attempts to summarize the main analytics-related activities during the two days of SAPPHIRE NOW – but note that this year, SAPPHIRE NOW attendees also have access to all SAP TechEd sessions that are going on at the same time, making it even harder than usual to choose from the dizzying array of possible sessions (the SAP TechEd sessions... [Read More...]

SAP BusinessObjects User Conference 2011: Opening Keynote

It’s a stormy and sunny day here in Orlando, Florida, for the  2011 ASUG SAP BusinessObjects User Conference in the Dolphin Hotel (ASUG members and conference attendees can see videos and download conference materials at http://www.asugonline.com/) Bridgette Chambers, CEO of the Americas’ SAP Users’ Group (ASUG) (@bchambersASUG on Twitter), kicked things to the packed room off by reminiscing about how much relations have improved... [Read More...]

Business Analytics in Poland

It was the SAP World Tour in Sopot, Poland last week, and I had the honor of presenting a keynote session on business analytics. The three-day event kicked off with a evening on a tall ship in nearby Gdynia, with traditional nautical music and evening entertainment including hitting a large nail into a stump of wood(?!). The opening “run better” presentation was done as a panel discussion with Grzegorz Rogali?ski, the SAP country manager, and... [Read More...]

SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0 Launch, Paris

The launch of BI 4.0 in Paris was one of the most interesting I’ve attended. It took place in the Salle Gaveau theatre in Paris on the afternoon of May 9th. In front of a packed crowd, journalist and editor Frédéric Simmottel of O1 Informatique welcomed everybody to the event. He invited Laurent Leenhardt, director of Business Analytics in France, up on stage to discuss the agenda and outline the main themes of the show. Next came a round-table... [Read More...]

I attended some of the Business Analytics track sessions at SAPPHIRE NOW online, available for free at sapphirenow.com (registration required). Here’s some summaries and highlights of the sessions I attended. Note, these notes are necessarily incomplete, and don’t necessarily summarize the presenters thoughts correctly – if something looks interesting, please check out the original presentation — I’ll add the links as the become... [Read More...]

First Look at the New SAP BusinessObjects Exploration Views Prototype

SAP have just announced a new Exploration Views prototype, based on the BusinessObjects Explorer platform. It builds on the core strengths of Explorer (easy-to-use interface and fast, in-memory calculations) with more options for business people to customize and share their own views of the data, without requiring help from IT. Exploration views is exactly what its name suggests: instead of having just a single view of the data in Explorer as you... [Read More...]

IDC Business Intelligence Roadshow Warsaw 2010

As promised, here’s my keynote presentation from the IDC Business Intelligence Roadshow in Warsaw, in Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format, or in zipped PowerPoint format. I often mention in my presentations that “120% of us don’t understand statistics” – and here’s the proof: somebody marked my presentation as 7 out of 5 for content and style: (many thanks, whoever you are!)  Read More →

Business Analytics on the Samsung Galaxy Tab

Earlier this week, I had a quick chance to use the new Samsung Galaxy Tab — the first serious tablet rival to the iPad — and check out its analytic / business intelligence capabilities. The device runs Android 2.2, which supports Adobe Flash, so the first thing I tried was a couple of dashboards suitable for executives on the run, built using BusinessObjects Dashboard (formerly Xcelsius). First, the same Formula 1 example that I previously... [Read More...]

The Intelligence Future Webcast

I’m doing a webcast today (Tuesday November 16th) on “The Intelligence Future: Simple, Seamless, Social, and Strategic” – here’s the abstract: Ever since the first abacus, information technology has been an essential part of delivering timely information, staying accountable to stakeholders, reducing inefficiencies, and maintaining flexibility when faced with fast-changing environments. But for the first time in history, consumer-technology... [Read More...]
