{"id":12013,"date":"2009-03-31T19:39:38","date_gmt":"2009-03-31T18:39:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/?p=635"},"modified":"2021-08-19T11:26:01","modified_gmt":"2021-08-19T09:26:01","slug":"bi-in-brussels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/2009\/03\/bi-in-brussels.html","title":{"rendered":"BI in Brussels (Against Economic Turmoil)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m just returning from Brussels (actually, the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hellosap.be\/news\/sap-lounge-opens-its-doors-vilvoorde\">SAP Lounge<\/a> venue at Vilvoorde), where I was invited to give the keynote presentation at a \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sap.com\/belux\/bi-seminar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reporting and Business Intelligence Session<\/a>\u201d for SAP customers, on the theme of &#8220;How to use Business Intelligence to Counter Economic Turmoil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(Side note: This post was composed and uploaded over the free wifi while traveling at around 190 miles an hour \u2013 I\u2019m proud to be European!)<\/p>\n<p>Apart from my presentation, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/0\/936\/370\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kenneth Stevens<\/a> did the introduction, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/0\/202\/8b7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jean-Francois Dierckx<\/a> gave a great demonstration of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sap.com\/solutions\/sapbusinessobjects\/large\/intelligenceplatform\/bi\/search-navigation\/polestar\/index.epx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Polestar<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sap.com\/solutions\/sapbusinessobjects\/large\/intelligenceplatform\/bi\/qra\/web_intelligence\/index.epx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WebIntelligence<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sap.com\/solutions\/sapbusinessobjects\/large\/intelligenceplatform\/bi\/information-infrastructure\/enterprise\/mobile\/index.epx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mobile BI<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/1\/026\/076\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frank Croket<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/dir\/Vinh\/Vu+Hong?trk=ppro_find_others\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vinh Vu Hong<\/a> of Accenture gave a presentation of their work using SAP BusinessObjects on SAP Business Warehouse at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurovia.fr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eurovia<\/a>, a French \u20ac7.7bn transport infrastructure construction company. Later in the afternoon, there were breakout sessions on the SAP BusinessObjects Products, for customers with or without existing SAP Netweaver BI installations.<\/p>\n<p>I also had two great conversations with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/4\/b93\/862\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alain de Fooz<\/a>, Chief Editor at Solutions IT Magazine (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.solutions-magazine.be\">www.solutions-magazine.be<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soluxions-magazine.lu\/\">www.soluxions-magazine.lu<\/a>) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/0\/7a9\/51b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jan-Frans Lemmens<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digimedia.be\">www.digimedia.be<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.computerworld.be\">www.computerworld.be<\/a>. Some of the topics we covered included:<\/p>\n<p><strong>BI 2.0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BI and search\/easy interfaces (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sap.com\/solutions\/sapbusinessobjects\/large\/intelligenceplatform\/bi\/search-navigation\/polestar\/index.epx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Polestar<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sap.com\/solutions\/sapbusinessobjects\/large\/intelligenceplatform\/bi\/dashboard-visualization\/xcelsius-enterprise\/index.epx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Xcelsius<\/a>) and unstructured data (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sap.com\/solutions\/sapbusinessobjects\/large\/intelligenceplatform\/im\/data-integration\/textanalysis\/index.epx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Text Analytics<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>BI \u201cin the cloud\u201d: <a href=\"http:\/\/ondemand.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ondemand.com<\/a> (information on demand, BI on demand, Polestar on demand, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>BI and collaboration, including the <a href=\"http:\/\/innovation-center.sap.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SAP BusinessObjects Innovation Center<\/a> and the BI <a href=\"innovation-center.sap.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">comment it<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdn.sap.com\/irj\/scn\/go\/portal\/prtroot\/docs\/webcontent\/uuid\/90118faf-43f1-2b10-289a-e8a2d6ae6816\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">content ranking<\/a> projects<\/li>\n<li>BI and social networking (<a href=\"http:\/\/esn.ondemand.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social network analysis<\/a>), sentiment analysis on twitter, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Trends in BI<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More companies taking a strategic, global approach to BI, now that it is provided by their \u201cstrategic vendors\u201d<\/li>\n<li>BI embedded into processes, using context and other available information to automatically suggest suitable analysis<\/li>\n<li>Back to DSS (decision-support systems): providing more support for the decision-making process, not \u201cjust\u201d gathering and displaying information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>BI and Marketing<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Embedded BI in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sap.com\/solutions\/business-suite\/crm\/featuresfunctions\/marketing.epx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SAP\u2019s CRM application<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Using BI to help credibility and relationship with sales and other organizations<\/li>\n<li>Using information to provide add-on services to existing products (extranets)<\/li>\n<li>Using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sap.com\/solutions\/sapbusinessobjects\/large\/enterprise-performance-management\/pcm\/index.epx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">profitability and cost management<\/a> to segment customers<\/li>\n<li>BI to analyze and improve social media marketing efforts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Presentation on &#8220;How to use Business Intelligence to Counter Economic Turmoil&#8221;
