{"id":12059,"date":"2009-07-09T16:37:04","date_gmt":"2009-07-09T15:37:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/?p=1102"},"modified":"2023-02-27T11:28:18","modified_gmt":"2023-02-27T10:28:18","slug":"augmented-business-intelligence-reality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/augmented-business-intelligence-reality.html","title":{"rendered":"Augmented Business Intelligence Reality?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following a tweet from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redmonk.com\/jgovernor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Governor<\/a>, AKA <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/monkchips\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@monkchips<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/greenmonk.net\/i-wish-i-were-a-software-developer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a post<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/tomraftery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tom Raftery<\/a>, I\u2019ve just seen a slice of the future of mobile business intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>A Dutch startup called <a href=\"http:\/\/layar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Layar<\/a> is providing mobile augmented reality for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.android.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Android-based<\/a> phones, based on the phone\u2019s GPS and internal compass. You just use the phone\u2019s camera, choose a \u201clayar\u201d of information (house prices, local jobs, nightclubs, etc.), point it anywhere you like, and it shows you information about whatever you\u2019re looking at.<\/p>\n<p>The possibilities for \u201cconsumer BI\u201d are endless, but you can also imagine it being useful in a corporate context, looking at sales in different sections of a retail store for example (and combined with an interface like <a href=\"https:\/\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/2009\/05\/the-next-xcelsius-roambi-provides-businessobjects-bi-for-the-iphone.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RoamBI<\/a>).
