Here\u2019s a quick, silly example of the future <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sap.com\/innovation\/industries\/what-is-the-internet-of-things-027558\" target=\"_blank\">internet of things<\/a> using an Easter Egg:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XyKJH4YAX-U\" height=\"388\" width=\"690\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s happening: inside the egg is a <a href=\"http:\/\/supermechanical.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Twine device by Supermechanical<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"twine\" alt=\"twine\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/twine.jpg?resize=690%2C334&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"690\" height=\"334\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Twine comes with a variety of sensors that you can program using a web interface and download to the device \u2013 here\u2019s the Twine rule I was using, below. It\u2019s pretty straightforward \u2013 if you try to move the egg, the internal sensor detects the vibration, and tweets out the result, in this case generating an alert on my iPhone:<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"twine_rule\" alt=\"twine_rule\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/twine_rule.jpg?resize=469%2C316&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"469\" height=\"316\" border=\"0\" \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"twitter-message\" alt=\"twitter-message\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/twitter-message.jpg?resize=210%2C314&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"210\" height=\"314\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I could instead have used the Twine to update a website with temperature alerts, etc for further analysis.<\/p>\n<p>In the future, we\u2019ll see these types of sensors become ever-cheaper and easier to use, and it will be easy to automatically track every aspect of both business processes and our own lives.
