They are incredibly popular in social media, <a href=\"https:\/\/socialmediachimps.com\/infographics\/why-infographics-data-visualization-works\/\" target=\"_blank\">because they work<\/a>. Here are some of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/infographics\" target=\"_blank\">favorite infographics of Fast Company magazine<\/a>. And there are, of course, <a href=\"http:\/\/visual.ly\/infographic-about-infographics-0\" target=\"_blank\">infographics about infographics<\/a> \u2013 even <a href=\"http:\/\/neomam.com\/interactive\/13reasons\/\" target=\"_blank\">interactive ones<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But what turns an infographic into an <em>infauxgraphic<\/em>?\u00a0If it&#8217;s ugly, silly, misguided, or misleading.<\/p>\n<h3>Ugly<\/h3>\n<p>Some infauxgraphics are just <a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/scottcowley\/ugly-infographics\/\" target=\"_blank\">really ugly<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/pin\/94294185920366500\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"ugly infauxgraphic\" alt=\"ugly infauxgraphic\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/ugly-infauxgraphic.jpg?resize=580%2C325&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"580\" height=\"325\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/pin\/94294185918001062\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"ugly infaugraphic2\" alt=\"ugly infaugraphic2\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/ugly-infaugraphic2.jpg?resize=577%2C346&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"577\" height=\"346\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Silly<\/h3>\n<p>Some infauxgraphics may just be <a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/boommmktg\/boomm-infauxgraphics\/\" target=\"_blank\">silly<\/a>\u00a0or <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.visual.ly\/making-it-funny-8-hilarious-infographics\/\" target=\"_blank\">funny<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Check out our July enewsletter to se our new B-to-B Marketing InFAUXgraphic: 6 things people accomplish during boring webinars\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/media-cache-ak3.pinimg.com\/736x\/e8\/1a\/34\/e81a34aa4009c675b15fc638c3a4f035.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Misguided<\/h3>\n<p>Infauxgraphics may be misguided, and fail in their mission by concentrating on <a href=\"http:\/\/alternate.org\/blog\/2010\/04\/13\/the-infauxgraphic-epidemic\/\" target=\"_blank\">graphic design rather than information design<\/a>. This is by far the most common problem: the design is visually arresting, but gets in the way of understanding, using pointless or uninteresting facts.
