Take, for example, this glimpse of a\u00a0potential &#8220;Domestic Robocop&#8221; HyperReality future created by designer and film-maker <a href=\"http:\/\/km.cx\/\" target=\"_blank\">Keiichi Matsuda<\/a>\u00a0in 2010.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Augmented (hyper)Reality: Domestic Robocop\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/8569187?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Every real-world surface in the short movie was\u00a0covered with constantly-changing information &#8212; with lots of ads and the occasional glitch thrown in. \u00a0Six years later, Matsuda has <a href=\"http:\/\/km.cx\/projects\/augmented-city-3D\/\" target=\"_blank\">continued<\/a>\u00a0to create\u00a0such movies, typically with a <a href=\"http:\/\/km.cx\/projects\/hyper-reality\/\" target=\"_blank\">less-than-utopian<\/a> view of what the future may hold.<\/p>\n<p>But business soothsayers are now more optimistic about the real-world uses of these technologies. According to the analyst group Gartner, the next five to ten years will bring &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gartner.com\/newsroom\/id\/3412017\" target=\"_blank\">transparently immersive experiences<\/a>&#8221; to the workplace. They believe this\u00a0will introduce &#8220;more transparency between people, businesses, and things&#8221; and help make technology &#8220;more adaptive, contextual, and fluid.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In Gartner&#8217;s latest emerging technologies <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gartner.com\/technology\/research\/methodologies\/hype-cycle.jsp\" target=\"_blank\">hype cycle<\/a>, Virtual Reality is already on the Slope of Enlightenment, with Augmented Reality not that far behind. In other words, enterprise uses of virtual reality have started to become more widely understood, and there are real-world enterprise uses of the technology, even if it&#8217;s mostly\u00a0only in pilot projects.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/na2.www.gartner.com\/imagesrv\/newsroom\/images\/emerging-tech-hc-2016.png;wa59f7b006c484099e\" alt=\"Emerging technology hype cycle\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Emerging technology hype cycle from Gartner, as of July 2016.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Q3 issue of Digitalist Magazine, Executive Quarterly enumerates the\u00a0many new business possibilities in the cover story <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalistmag.com\/executive-research\/from-e-business-to-v-business\">From E-Business to V-Business<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So we know these technologies are coming to our organizations. What are some concrete steps organizations we\u00a0take today to start preparing the integration of these technologies\u00a0into business workflows?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dashboards linked to the real world\u00a0<\/strong>Augmented reality tends to rely heavily on geographical location.
