And my takeaway is this: it doesn\u2019t matter how many reports we build, unless that data actually gets acted upon.<\/p>\n<p>And this can happen in two different ways. A sales person, say, can look at the data and figure out what to do do differently in the future. That&#8217;s what we mostly do.<\/p>\n<p>But you can also take the data and really\u00a0embed it\u00a0in real time into business processes. Take the example of purchase orders. What typically happens today is that you choose a vendor in the system, and itemize what you want to buy.<\/p>\n<p>But when you think about it, that&#8217;s the wrong way around! You should put in what you want to buy, and the system should use all the data available to figure out the best vendor, in real time&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Technology is just one aspect of getting it right. There are a lot of smart people in this room that can implement technology. But are we really thinking about what it means to the business when you embed analytics?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Jag and Chris covered the research around the top trends in IT for the &#8220;Kinetic Enterprise&#8221;. The first of the trends covered &#8212; <strong>IT unbounded<\/strong> &#8212; covered the transformation of IT into an open, agile, and cross-disciplinary operating and delivery model.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/business-expectations-of-it-unbounded.png?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-13344\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/business-expectations-of-it-unbounded.png?resize=328%2C479&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"328\" height=\"479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/business-expectations-of-it-unbounded.png?resize=480%2C700&amp;ssl=1 480w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/business-expectations-of-it-unbounded.png?resize=768%2C1120&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/business-expectations-of-it-unbounded.png?resize=702%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 702w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timoelliott.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/business-expectations-of-it-unbounded.png?w=1000&amp;ssl=1 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 328px) 100vw, 328px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Deloitte does a lot of <a href=\"https:\/\/dupress.deloitte.com\/dup-us-en\/focus\/tech-trends\/2017\/it-transformation-business-potential.html\">research<\/a> into business satisfaction with IT, and the changing nature of the IT function.<\/p>\n<p>The chart on the right shows some of the big gaps between what the business expects of IT organizations, and what it&#8217;s currently capable of delivering.<\/p>\n<p>These gaps have driven the adoption of &#8220;shadow IT&#8221;, but Deloitte believes that the next phase of IT-business collaboration will dissolve the idea of shadow IT by fundamentally blurring the line between\u00a0the two.\u00a0Going forward, they should be\u00a0be joint partners in the use of technology to operate a function or commercialize a product<\/p>\n<p>Key recommendations to current IT leaders from Deloitte include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Earn business leaders trust (by embracing shadow IT, rather than ignoring it or fighting it)<\/li>\n<li>Liberate IT talent to focus on new tasks (by taking advantage of new technologies like SAP HANA to simplify)<\/li>\n<li>Establish an innovation council (for example, reach out to milennials in the organization)<\/li>\n<li>Escape your echo chamber (take a step back and reevaluate the belief systems that support the current IT environment)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Next the presenters covered the topic of <strong>Dark Analytics<\/strong>, the need to shine\u00a0a light on video, audio, images, the dark web, and other sources of untapped data. They have developed a solution is called Lens that is based on the SAP HANA technology.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/J-yH8G46CFM?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Inevitable Architecture<\/strong> section covered the modernizing of infrastructure and platforms through containerization, standards, and autonomics.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Cloud is inevitable. I don&#8217;t think organizations can survive without getting into the cloud game and having a cloud strategy.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The real benefit of cloud is driving fast innovation.
