As I mentioned in the previous post, SAP launched the new BusinessObjects Explorer Accelerated product today. You can try out the product and learn how microfinance is helping reduce global poverty by visiting the excellent SAP BusinessObjects Explorer demo at http://microfinance.sap.com.
It will challenge you to find answers to a few questions, and you’ll be able to do so, quickly and easily, without any training, using the intuitive new Explorer interface. It gives you a real feel for how it might change the way your organization uses information.
The data used comes from Opportunity International. In 28 countries around the world, Opportunity International provides loans, savings, insurance and training to over a million people living in poverty. Clients use these financial services to start or expand a business, provide for their families, create jobs for their neighbors and build a safety net for the future.

We just installed Polestar and while I do like the potential I am quite frustrated with lack of community knowledge base to get answers to what one would think are simple problems. Then this marketing / product change to Business Objects Explorer leads me to believe I am pursuing problems with software (Polestar) that has already been deprecated.
With new product releases – us Polestar users not attached to SAP BI (oops now BW again) would like better roadmap information with these announcements.
Brad,
Thanks for the comment — I agree that we need to do more to provide information about the product. It’s relatively new, and until recently it’s been a little overshadowed by the need to communicate effectively around the existing product road maps (Business Explorer, Web Intelligence, etc.).
The standalone Polestar (as you say, now renamed Explorer) is very much alive and well, and will remain independent of the underlying data sources. We’re working on a version that provides the same hardware/in-memory acceleration that we launched this week for BW, but without any need for BW.
Best of luck with your projects,
Timo
